Waiting is the hardest part!

Where to begin...Eliana Marie was born on January 14, 2001. My 3rd little angel baby! 7 pounds, 14 oz of pure perfection! The neonatology team was there to listen to her lungs and check her out. She looked wonderful and was given the all clear. We were instructed to make the follow up appointment with CHOP for when she was 4-5 weeks of age.

February 15, 2011 The day Eliana was scheduled to have her CT Scan to determine if the mass was a BPS or CCAM. We had an arrival time of 7:30 am. No eating past 4 am for the little girl. I was a mess. So worried about seeing my baby go though this was so hard for me. Not something I wanted to watch my little girl have to go through. She was a trooper. The worst part for her was the IV...and she let us know with an ear-piercing scream! She woke up about an hour later and we had to go immediately over to Dr. Hedrick's office. I was so worried, but ready to hear whatever was to come...or so I thought. The doctor came in and told us the she thought the lung mass was a BPS and that--good news--it was still small! She said that we would have to check the mass again in 6 months. Then the unexpected, and what I was not prepared for...in addition to the mass on her right lung, there was also a mass on her liver. She was not sure what type of mass this one was, but it was rather unusual because both masses were getting the blood supply from the same vessel. I was overcome with such a feeling of sadness...why my little baby? Why not just one "problem", but two? And what will the outcome be? All of this was running through my mind and anything that she said to me was a blur. What we managed to take away from that appointment was that the liver mass could be one of two things. I asked for more information, but the doctor basically told me to wait and see what it is first. One was a more serious issue and one was one that could resolve on it's own. I was devastated and kept wondering why the whole day.

February 17, 2011 The day Eliana was scheduled to have her MRI
You'd think I would have been a little more "okay" with the sedation process since she had just been through it two days ago...nope. I was just as nervous that day as well. The IV wasn't as easy this time. It took 3 different people to finally get it. They stuck her hand three times, her foot once, and (can't remember what it's called but) the inside of her elbow once. The only time she screamed was the last. Once again, she was such a trooper. There was no one there who could read the results for us so we had to wait for the doctor to call.

February 18, 2011 The day after the MRI
I called to find out if she had any more information. She said that the radiologist who did the study wanted to consult with the other members of the team before giving us a definitive answer. More waiting. She promised she would call as soon as she had any information.

February 19, 2011
Still no call from the doctor. I finally called her around 3:30 and she said that she had reults...good news! I breathed such a sigh of relief. The liver mass is called something like a hemangiomaendophelia...and it should go away on its own! She will still have to have it checked until it goes away on its own or gets bigger. If it gets bigger, they will possibly do radiation. We will take her this week for a baseline blood check and heart check.

I'm just jumping for joy that it's good news and taking it one day at a time.
